CONTRIBUTION TO THE PHOTOGRAPHIC AND METHODOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE TRANSVERSE DIMENSIONS OF ION TRACKS IN IONOGRAPHIC EMULSIONS. APPLICATION TO THEIR DISCRIMINATION (in French)

Journal Article · · Ann. phys.
OSTI ID:4123612
The theoretical and practical problems on the measurement of the transverse dimensions of tracks of charged particles in emulsions are studied. The methodological problems relative to measurement procedures are first discussed. The study of tracks from the viewpoint of corpuscular photography (latent image and grain sensitivity) is based on the relationship between the distribution of the latent image in the AgBr grains and the energy spent by the different radiations. A theoretical study is made of the structure of the tracks, based on the spatial distribution of delta rays at all energies. The practical applications of the data obtained in these studies are then considered with emphasis on the possibilities of discriminating the particles by transverse measurement. (J.S.R.)
