An apparatus for detecting fuel jacket failures in a reactor is designed which uses a matrix system. The apparatus comprises a system of tubes for sampling the coolant from the channels, and the tubes are arranged in a square matrix and connected with collectors in such a way that the coolant in andy one row of tubes is fed to a single collector while the coolant in any one column of tubes is fed to another collector. Thus, it is possible to identify the faulty channel by inspecting the row and column collectors with detectors through selector means. (D.L.C.)
