RADIATION STABILITY OJ ION-EXCHANGE RESINS

Journal Article · · Hua Hseuh Tung Pao (China) Ceased publication
OSTI ID:4121806
An account is given of the results of investigation on the changes in properties (exchange ability (EA), acid number (AN), degree of swelling, and solubility) of various ionexchange resins under the effect of radiation. Both dry resins and those swollen in various media were studied. The results were not uniform. Thus, EA and AN of dry resins decrease under the effect of radiation, whereas in swollen resins EA decreases and AN increases. Different ion-exchange resins have different stability in respect to the action of radiation; resins with cross-linked structure display greater stability. Changes in the properties are influenced by adsorbable ions; resins containing sodium ions are more stable than those containing hydrogen ions. Changes in the properties of various ion- exchange resins depending on radiation dose, physical state, and chemical structure are tabulated. (OTS)
