PHOTOPRODUCTION OF NEGATIVE PIONS FROM HYDROGEN AT FORWARD ANGLES

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
Bremsstrahlung of energy 1230 Mev with an interval of 100 Mev was used to produce pi /sup -/ in a liquid hydrogen target, data being taken at laboratory angles from 5 to 30/sup o/ and pi /sup -/ laboratory momenta from approximately 600 to 1000 Mev/c. Plots of the differential cross section vs. total energy for several angles and of the angular distribution are compared with Drell's theoretical results; the agreement is qualitatively good, although the experimental cross sections are considerably larger and do not show any decrease at the smallest angle measured.
