LESIONS PRODUCED BY NUCLEAR RADIATIONS DURING AN ATOMIC EXPLOSION IN AN URBAN CENTER. PART 9 (in Spanish)

Journal Article · · Rev. Sanidad Mil. (Mex.)
OSTI ID:4121173
The most frequent and important lesions produced by the atom bombs detonated over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and which developed within 15 weeks following the explosion, were analyzed. Mortality and the severity of these lesions caused mainly by gamma rays and neutrons were correlated with survival, symptomatology, and distance from the explosion. Reference was made to the vulnerability of immature cells to radiation. Damage to various systems in the body were discussed in detail, as also the general symptoms of persons exposed to a lethal dose. Mention was made of lethal complications developing in groups of possible survivors, and recomendations were given for lessening or avoiding bodily damage during a nuclear attack. Finally, treatment for radiation damage was discussed. (BBB)
