ON THE PRODUCTION OF Be$sup 7$ IN THE NRX REACTOR BY THE B$sup 10$(p,$alpha$)Be$sup 7$, Li(p,n)Be$sup 7$, AND Li$sup 6$(d,n)Be$sup 7$ REACTIONS

Beryllium-7 was produced in the NRX reactor by the following reactions: B/sup 10/(p, alpha )Be/sup 7/, Li/sup 7/(p,n)Be/sup 7/, and Li/sup 6/(d,n)Be/sup 7/. The Be/sup 7/ was identified by its half-life and gamma -ray energy. The (p, alpha ), (p,n), and (d,n) reactions were initiated by protons and deuterons produced by neutronhydrogen atom collisions and by neutron- deuterium atom collisions from the irradiation of horic acid, lithium hydroxide, and lithium deuteroxide, respectively. The same three reactions were initiated by protons and deuterons produced by (n,p) and (n,d) reactions on boron, lithium, and target elements chemically combined with lithium. (auth)
