SEVERAL THEORETICAL QUESTIONS RELATIVE TO RADIOMETRIC TITRATION (in German)

The theory of radiometric titrations based on precipitate formation is discussed. If a salt AB is formed, the equation for its solubility product, L/ sub AB/= STAA/sup +/! STAB/sup -/! is valid only for a saturated solution after the initial precipitation of AB. The solubility product also depends somewhat on the composition of the solution. In the case of titration of an active sample with an inactive solution the activity of the solution above the precipitate *AB is proportional to the concentration of A/sup +/. The titration curve decreases hyperbolically or in a shape that approximates two straight lines. If an inactive sample is titrated against an active titration solution, the activity of the bulk solution above the precipitate A*B is proportional to the concentration, of B/sup -/. The titration curve increases almost linearly. When an active sample is titrated against an active solution the activity of the hulk solution initially decreases while formation of the precipitate *AIB reduces the concentration of the *A/sup +/ ion. After reaching a minimum the activity of the solution increases because of the addition of the *B/sup -/ and approaches a value limited by the total activity added. (TCO)
