FUNDAMENTAL AND APPLIED RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN METALLURGY. Progress Report to United States Atomic Energy Commission for the Month of October 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4120167
Methods of fabricating tungsten tubing by extrusion andd drawing are discussed along with metallographic andd mechanical properties. The effects of copper, iron, andd nickel additions on single-crystal deformation in zone-refined beryllium are studied with respect to tensile andd compression testing. The development of fabricating techniques for beryllium-- Zircaloy-- 2, silver-- uranium, and copperuranium alloys by SLIS techniques is discussed. Fabrication and properties of extruded copper-- uranium alloys are described. The hardness of splat cooled and compacted uranium alloys containing beryllium, carbon, and copper is compared with cast uranium and molybdenum-uranium alloy. (N.W.R.)
