Paired thermoluminescent dosimeter technique in Bonner sphere spectrometry
- Univ. of Texas, Austin, TX (United States); and others
The University of Texas Bonner sphere spectrometer normally employs a cylindrically shaped 0.4-cm-diam {times} 0.4-cm-long {sup 6}LiI(Eu) scintillator placed at the centers of the spherical polyethylene moderators. Other types of active and passive thermal-neutron detectors have also been used for such spectrometers. The use of paired thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) as a passive thermal neutron detector allows Bonner sphere spectrometry measurements to be done in high-intensity or pulsed radiation fields where active detectors would experience counting rate problems. However, little has been published on the principles and practice of the paired-TLD technique for Bonner sphere spectrometry.
