THE W$sup 189$-Re$sup 189$ DECAY CHAIN

W/sup 189/ was found by an Os(n, alpha ) reaction. Its half life is 11 min and the maximum BETA energy around 1.4 Mev. A tungsten nuclide with this half life could not be obtained with a W(d,p) reaction. The 23-hr Re/sup 189/ reported by Crasemann, Emery, and Kane, was prepared using enriched osmium isotopes. Its maximum BETA energy is about 0.8 Mev and gamma lines of 65, 140, 170, and 225 kev were observed. (auth)
