The water and oil bearing layers may be delineated in well logging by analyzing the ( gamma ,n) reaction energy thresholds of isotopes composing the layers. The photoneutron yields from ( gamma ,n) reactions in deuterium C/sup 12/ , C/sup 13/, and O/sup 16/ are plotted. (R.V.J.)
