The percent of Na nuclei emitted in the forward direction was found to be 1.2% for an Al target having a thickness of 24.2 mg/cm/sup 2/, 4.0%, for a thickness of 2.0 mg/cm, and 130% for a thickness of 0.26 mg/cm/sup 2/. The number of Na/sup 24/ nuclei remaining in the target is taken as 100%. The ratio of Na/sup 24/ nuclei in the forward'' direction to the number in the backwards'' direction was found to be 5.6 plus or minus 1.4. The Na/sup 24/ nuclei were absorbed in two consecutive Mylar films having thicknesses of 8.5 mg/ cm/sup 2/ (1st film). Na/sup 24/ nuclei with E> 4 Mev showed an isotropic distribution at angles of 60 to 180 deg , and a sharp increase at angles of 0 to 60 deg . Na/sup 24/ nuclei with E> 24 Mev but < 110 Mev showed a high concentration at angles of 0 to 15 deg . Na nuclei having energies of 100 to 130 Mev in the forward direction were detected with an Al target having a thickness of 24.2 mg/cm/sup 2/. These longrange '' Na nuclei from aluminum cannot be explained by assuming a cascade-evaporation model. A process of fragmentation also makes a contribution. The number of long-range Na/sup 24/ nuclei is 10% of the total number of nuclei formed in the cascade-evaporation process. (TTT)
