ABS>The development and nature of the Dounreay Fast Reactor Experiment to study the feasibility of the fast reactor concept are presented. A discussion of the most important aspects of the experiment include: handling and purity control of large quantities of liquid metal; control of a fast reactor at a steady power level; and the behavior of metallic fuel under irradiation. The experimental facilities are illustrated. Plans for an experimental irradiation program are mentioned. (L.B.S.)
