An apparatus was developed for measuring radiation that is especially applicable to measuring the power developed in a reactor. It consists of a fluid dielectric in which Cherenkov radiation is produced, shielding around the dielectric, and a light guide extending through the shielding and positioned to transmit light due to the radiation to an external point at which light- responsive apparatus is located. The light guide follows a curved zig zag or other irregular path to prevent transmission of harmful radiation such as gamma rays. The term light guide'' includes both rods of light-transmitting dielectric and arrangements of mirrors. (M.C.G.)
