A toroidal container for gas discharge apparatus is patented. The liner of the container has many apertures or slots encircling the liner in rows. The slots are staggered to intercept direct current flowing parallel to the equator of the torus. The current is forced to flow in many zig-zag paths, but the resultant flow around the equator of the torus is negligible. This increases the resistance of the liner without producing undesirable currents around the equator. Several slot geometries are suggested. (M.P.G.)
