Measurement of the hyperfine structure of the 8$sup 2$P/sub 1/2/ state of $sup 87$Rb and the 9$sup 2$P/sub 1/2/ state of $sup 133$Cs

The hyperfine structure of the 8$sup 2$P/sub $sup 1$$/$$sub 2$/ state of $sup 87$Rb and the 9$sup 2$P/sub $sup 1$$/$$sub 2$/ state of $sup 133$Cs has been measured by a multistep excitation method using a dye laser. Our measured values for the magnetic dipole coupling constant are A($sup 87$Rb, 8$sup 2$P/sub $sup 1$/ $sub 2$) = 32.12(11) MHz and A($sup 133$Cs, 9$sup 2$P/sub $sup 1$$/$$sub 2$/) = 23.19(15) MH z.
