Journal Article · · Zeitschrift fuer Analytische Chemie (West Germany) Changed to Fresnius Z. Anal. Chem.
OSTI ID:4111653
The dye BETA -SNADNS-6, was prepared from chromotropic acid and 2- naphthylamine-6-sulfonic acid. The blue thorium complex of this dye was studied spectrophotometrically. The complex forms in the pH range 2 to 4, the maximum color development occurs at a very narrow pH range of 2.5 to 3. The maximum absorption of the complex occurs at 590 nm. The color reaction is fairly sensitive. The molar absorption coefficient of the complex is 20,604. The average formation constant of the thorium chelate, determined by various methods, was calculated as 1.25 x 10/sup 5/. Only one complex having the composition 1. 1 is formed. (auth)
