The effects of x radiation on diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN), reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN --H), adenine, and nicotinic amide in aqueous oxygen-free solutions were measured by the change in the uv absorption spectra and by the change in the DPN-H fluorescence. The indirect radiation effects on DPN--H were chiefly oxidation to DPN. The radiochemical decomposition of DPN was in part analogous to the influence of alkalis on DPN. (tr-auth)
