GENERAL OPERATION AND CONSTRUCTION FEATURES OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE SYSTEM FOR THE 80-INCH BUBBLE CHAMBER

The undercarriage system is used to position accurately the 450 ton magnet and bubble chamber assemblies in the experimental proton beam of the synchrotron. The operations for translating, rotating, raising and lowering, and separating the magnet sections are described. Load distribution on the wheels and tracking of the machine are discussed. (D.L.C.)
