COLUMBIUM $sub 4$$H$$sub 4$ SECTION PROGRAM. PHASE I. EXTRUSION. PHASE II. DRAWING. Interim Report I, July 1, 1963-October 1, 1963
Phase I goal is the extrusion of D-43 (Nb-- 10W- 1Zr0.1C) and Nb-752 (Nb- - 10W--2.5Zr) H'' sections, of specified size, with section thicknesses of 0.060 inch, and lengths of at least 20 feet. Two 8-inch diameter ingots were melted of each alloy, converted to billets, and extruded to 3.7-inch diameter stock. Nine 3.4-inch diameter billets were extruded to H'' sections with thicknesses of 0.187 and 0.125 inches (extrusion ratios of 12.4: 1 and future program is discussed. Phase II goal is the drawing of extruded H'' sections of the above alloys to specified size, with section thicknesses of 0.040 inch, and lengths of at least 20 feet. Die designs were made and general equipment requirements for drawing the H'' sections studied. Appropriate preparations for drawing are being made. The future program is discussed. (auth)
