IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO CONTROL DEVICES FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4107068
A device for controlling a nuclear reactor comprises a series of control members parallelly disposed within the reactor core such as to extend along its whole length. These control members may rotate about one or several axes parallel to their own axis. Each control member is composed of a nuclear fuel portion and an absorber portion both extending over the whole length of it. They may be brought by rotations from a position where the absorber portions of the device mask the fuel portions, with respect to the exterior of the device, into another positron in which in a similar way the fuel portions mask the absorber portions. According to a preferred embodiment, the control members disposed along a circle have a prismatic shape with semicircular cross section and rotate about the axis of that semi-circle. The fuel portion occupying almost the whole of the cross section is covered at its flat surface with an absorber plate. (IIB)
