Problems connected with the disposal of effluents from various enterprises dealing with open radioactive substances are discussed. Data are presented on the quantity and degree of effluent contamination and on the method of determining the extent of effluent decontamination reqaired before its discharge into the sewerage system or a water basin. The choice of methods of effluent decontamination are discussed, and a short description and assessment of various decontamination methods is given. (Public Health Eng. Abstr., 43: Dec. 1963)
