MONTE CARLO SLOWING DOWN MOMENTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4106028
In the calculation of slowing down of neutrons. the azimuthal angle of scattering is an "ignorable" coordinate in the sense that it does not appear in the description of the kinematics of a collision. If one is interested only in the slowing-down moments, it is possible to average each collision over the azimuth angle and thereby reduce the number of variables. The second and fourth moments of the slowing down are calcuiated by recursion formulas. (W.D.M.)
