EXCITED LEVELS IN $sup 77$Se FROM THE DECAY OF $sup 77$Br

Journal Article · · Nuovo Cimento (Italy) Divided into Nuovo Cimento A and Nuovo Cimento B
OSTI ID:4102089
The decay of 58 h Br/sup 77/ was investigated with scintillation spectrometers, coincidence techniques, and angular correlations. Sixteen gamma transitions are found to occur between states in Se/sup 77/ with the following energies, and probable spins and parities: ground state (1/2/sup -/), 161 kev (7/ 2/sup -/), 242 kev (3/2/sup -/), 248 kev (5/2/sup -/), 440 kev (5/2/sup -/), 515 kev (7/2/s up -/), 820 kev (3/2/sup -/), and 1000 kev (3/2/sup 2/). The half- life of the weakly excited upper state at about 248 kev, of the doublet near 245 kev in Se, was measured by means of delayed coincidence method; the result was (9.7 plus or minus 0.8) X 10/sup -9/ s. The way in which the states of this doublet are excited and de-excited was investigated. It was found that the 248- kev upper level of the doublet de-excites by transitions to the ground state and to the 161-kev isomeric state in Se/sup 77/, with a branching ratio of 1.6 plus or minus 0.4.
