A description is given of a thermal barrier system for use in a pressure vessel, such as a pre-stressed concrete pressure vessel housing the pressurized primary circuit of a gas-cooled nuclear reactor, in which there is provided a metal liner, stud members fixed to the metal liner, an inner flexible membrane fixed to the stud member, and porous insulation held between the liner and the membrane.
