THE DEPOSITION OF FISSION PRODUCTS FROM DISTANT NUCLEAR TEST EXPLOSIONS. RESULTS TO THE MIDDLE OF 1960

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4099880
Collection of rain-water samples continued at seven stations in the United Kingdom and at 17 stations elsewhere. Samples are collected monthly at Milford Haven, Pembroke shire, and Abingdon, Berkshire, and quarterly at the other stations and are analyzed for Sr/sup 89/, Sr/sup 90/, and Cs/sup 137/. The total deposition of Sr/sup 90/ in the 12 months ending June 1960 at Milford Haven was 2.55 mc/km/sup 2/, compared with 7.1 mc/km/sup 2/ in the previous 12 months. Some information is also included on the uniformity of the Sr/sup 90/ concentration in rain over the U.K., on the variation of Sr/sup 90/ concentration with latitude, on the ratio of Cs/sup 137/ to Sr/sup 90/, and on the seasonal variation of activity in rain.
