A COMPARISON OF ARSENIOUS OXIDE AND PLUTONIUM FOR THE STANDARDIZATION OF CERIC SULFATE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4099549
The use of arsenious oxide in the macro standardization of ceric sulfate solutions used in plutonium assay is being proposed. To check this new method, macro standardizations of 0.1 N ceric sulfate solutions were carried out using both arsenic oxide and plutonium metal. The results show that the plutonium method has a significantly larger standard deviation than the arsenic oxide method, and hence the latter method is a better reference. Possible explanations of the irregular plutonium results are given. (D.L.C.)
