A quantitative study was carried out on the effect of the solvent on the spectroscopic (absorption and fluorescence spectra) and lasing (lasing frequency and threshold) characteristics of rhodamine 6G with lamp pumping. It was demonstrated that intermolecular relaxation processes play an important role in the variation of the said characteristics, thus indicating the need for considering these processes when interpreting both the spontaneous and induced emission spectra of solutions of rhodamine 6G and related compounds.
