CURRENT STATUS AND POTENTIAL OF IRRADIATION TO PREVENT POTATO SPROUTING

Potato production and processing methods in the U. S. and Canada are reviewed. The current status and cost of radiation processing to prevent sprouting during storage are discussed. It is concluded that, under present market conditions, widespread use of irradiation as a sprout inhibitor is not feasible. (C.H.)
