ON THE EFFECT OF COMPOSITION OF ZIRCALOY ON ITS CORROSION RESISTANCE IN HIGH TEMPERATURE WATER

Journal Article · · Trans. Natl. Res. Inst. Metals (Tokyo)
OSTI ID:4093519

Studies were conducted concerning the corrosion resistance of Zircaloy in high-temperature water using domestic-made sponge of zirconium as a raw material. The composition of the sponge made in Japan is shown in a table. The contents of nitrogen and carbon, which affect corrosion resistance of the alloy, are less than that of foreign-made. Results of corrosion tests conducted in high- purity water at 320 deg C indicated that Zircaloy having a composition of 0.8 approximates 1.2% Sn, 0.15, 0.20% Fe, 0.10, 0.15% Cr and <0.051% Ni showed better corrosion resistance than that of Zircaloy-2.
