Wide-range continuous tuning of the emission frequency of a high-pressure CO$sub 2$ laser

Continuous tuning of the emission frequency of a CO$sub 2$ laser operating at 5 atm was obtained for the P and R branches of laser transitions in a combined range of about 45 cm$sup -1$. This was achieved for a maximum energy of 0.1 J per pulse and a spectral line width of 0.05 cm$sup -1$. (AIP)
