ENERGY LOSSES BY FAST ELECTRONS IN THIN SOLID FOILS

A formula was derived for the energy loss rate of fast electrons passing through thin solid foils and it is shown that the energy loss rate has two peaks corresponding to the excitations of normal and tangential plasmons. The Green function method, which is similar to the selfenergy approach, was used. Experimental results for Ge and Si are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
