NEUTRON INELASTIC SCATTERING MEASUREMENTS OF ANTIFERROMAGNETIC EXCITATIONS IN MnF$sub 2$ AT 4.2 K AND AT TEMPERATURES UP TO THE NEEL POINT

Journal Article · · Phys. Letters

The antiferromagnetic properties of MnF/sub 2/ were studied using a twin- rotor neutron time-of-flight spectrometer. Spin wave dispersion relations were obtained for propagation in the (100) and (001) directions at 4.2 deg K. Decreasing spin wave energies and increasing line widths were observed as the crystal temperature increased from 4.2 to 62.0 deg K. Spin-wave-like fluctuations were observed at 66.3 deg K and just above the Neel point (67.0 deg K) at 68.5 and 70.7 deg K. Spin wave interaction theory described the dispersion fairly well. (auth)
