Radiochemical transformations of permanganate ions in acetone solutions were analyzed. Permanganate radioreduced to manganese dioxide exhibited an increased yield with increased permanganate concentrations and reached 23 equiv/ 100 ev in 0.002 M solution. A reduced postirradiation yield was observed with increased permanganate concentration. The total reduction yield increased with increased permanganate concentration, reaching 42 equiv/100 ev in 0.002 M solution. The mechanism of permanganate reduction in reactions with acetone radiolysis products was analyzed. (R.V.J.)
