MODIFICATION OF THE HEPATIC ULTRASTRUCTURE IN ANIMALS IRRADIATED AND TREATED WITH SYNKAYVITE (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Radiobiol. Latina
OSTI ID:4089033
The morphology of the liver of rats exposed to wholebody irradiation and given Synkayvite was investigated with the electron microscope. The Synkayvite had a radiosensitizing effect. The study showed modifications of the cytoplasmic ultrastructure of the hepatocyte such as alterations of the mitochondria (swelling and irregularity of the borders) and the endoplasmic reticulum (decrease of the numbers and dilatation of the cavities of the granular reticulum), and the presence of intensely osmiophilic granula in Golgis apparatus. These data are discussed with respect to their relation to recent biochemical observations on the mechanism of action of phosphoric esters of vitamin K. (auth)
