A previous study on the early effects of radiation on the rabbit heart was completed by extending the examination period up to 120 days. The rabbits were exposed to 10,000 and 15,000 rad Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation administered in a single dose in the precardial region. In only three animals, exposed to the higher dosage, were slight electrocardiographic variations found. These variations consisted of a progressive elongation of the Q-T tact (2 cases) and flattening of the T wave (1 case). Clear histomorphological alterations of the myocardial fibrocells could not be established in any case. (auth)
