AN IMPROVED PHOSPHOR FOR DETERMINING THE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY OF BLOOD GLUCOSE BY LIQUID SCINTILLATION

Journal Article · · Intern. J. Appl. Radiation Isotopes
An improved phosphor consisting of naphthalene, 2,5diphenyl oxazole (PPO), p-bis-(2-(5-phenyl oxazolyl))benzene, and methanol was found to dissolve boric acid quite readily and to have suitable solvent properties for phenyl glucosotnlazole. This permits the counting of greater quantities of triazole in smaller volumes of phosphor (5 ml), resulting in improved counting efficiency and lower backgrounds. A liquid scintillation counter fitted with a single photomultiplier tube that functions with a low background count up to room temperature permits the use of the modified phosphor between 0 deg C and room temperature. The composition of the recommended phosphor is given. (P.C.H.)
