An attempt was made to show irregularities in the change of some properties of rare-earth elements according to the atomic number. It is shown that deviations from the linear dependence exist in a number of physico-chemical properties and also in dimensional properties of the rare-earth elements. Most frequently the boundaries of structure change of rare-earth compounds of the boundaries stability - unstability, of rare-earth compounds full on Nd, Ho, and Gd (accordingly---29, 15, and 10 cases of 87 considered). These areas, conditionally named crystallochemical unstability areas, coincide with areas of maximum deviation and with the bending point on Gd. The quantitative quantummechanical analysis allows the suggestion that the above mentioned effects are conditioned by a strong spin-orbit interaction. A geochemical supplement of detected effects is given. It is shown that the selectivity of rare-earth element composition in compounds may be connected with the existence of crystallochemical unstability areas. (auth)
