USE OF ISOLATED JUNCTION SHEATHED THERMOCOUPLES FOR MODERATOR TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4087789

The calculated temperature error that an isolated junction, thermocouple would have compared to an integral junction thermocouple is shown This error can be balanced against the added advantages inherent in an isolated junction couple; such as ungrounded leads, shielded leads, ability to measure insulation resistance, pure sheath material unalloyed with the thermoelements at the hot junction, etc. Calculations indicate that the temperature errors due to the thermal insulation of the hot junction in an isolated junction-sheathed thermocouple of reasonable size are small.
