Thermocouple and method of making the thermocouple and of mounting the thermocouple on a heat exchanger tube
A thermocouple assembly for measuring the surface temperature of a fired heat exchanger tube is described comprising, a cold junction end having a temperature readout instrument and a hot junction end having a temperature sensing junction member, the ends being connected by sheathed thermocouple conductors. The sheathed thermocouple conductors include an elongated tubular metal sheath, and a pair of spaced thermocouple conductors within the sheath, electrical insulating material spacing and supporting the conductors within the sheath in insulating relation from each other and from the sheath. The hot junction end is defined by a thermojunction tip. The tip includes a face in which the conductors end, sheath are substantially coplanar, a junction member contacting the face and welded to the conductors at the face. The junction member is spaced from the sheath and insulating means disposed between the junction member and the sheath to electrically and thermally.
