STUDIES OF PLASMA OSCILLATIONS. Quarterly Status Report No. 12, September 1-November 30, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4087412
Solutions were derived by a variational method for dipole resonant frequencies in plane and spherical plasma geometries. Theory for probe characteristics in the presence of noise was also developed and experimentally verified. Experimental work on the radiation waves proposed to explain the peaks in low-frequency noise spectra involved light intensity profile measurements on cylindrical and rectangalar tubes. Research on striations in mercuryvapor discharges and on double sheaths at tube constrictions continued, and theoretical work on plasma impedance at frequencies of zero to a few Mc/sec was supplemented by measurements in a tube containing a movable anode.
