A NUMERICAL EXPERIMENT ON theta-PINCH IONIZATION

A numerical experiment is reported for a preheat discharge in a theta - pinch geometry. This type of discharge is intended to represent one stage in the operation of a multistage theta -pinch experiment that might comprise weak r-f preionization, a low-power Z-pinch to bring the ionization to 5%, a preheat stage to complete the ionization, followed by firing of the main bank.
