The heat developed by nuclear fission is converted partly into electricity in a direct way by means of cylindrical themnoelectric elements, A series of these elements is enclosed between coaxial cylindricai metal envelopes overlapping each other and having a length about twice that of each thermoelectric element and serwing also to connect the elements electrically. The assembly forms a tube into which a nuclear fuel can be introduced, so as to give a nuclear fuel element, which can be cooled by a liquid flowing on the outside. Alternatively a liquid fuel can be situated outside and a cooling liquid inside the tube. (NPO)
