BIOLOGICAL HALF-LIFE OF L-THYROXINE AND OF 3,5,3'-TRIIODO-L-THYRONINE-I$sup 131$ IN THE RAT EXPOSED TO WHOLE-BODY X IRRADIATION OF A FATAL DOSE (in French)
The gradual growth of L-thyroxine (T/sub 4/) and 3,5,3'triiodo-L- thyronine (T/sub 3/), labeled with I/sup 131/ in the 3,5' and 3' positions, respectively, was comparatively studied in the normal rat and in rats exposed to whole-body lethal doses of x radiation five days before the subcutaneous injection of T/sub 4/ and T/sub 3/. The irradiation does not significantly modify the biological half life of I/sup 131/. In addition, there is no incidence of the dehalogenation of the two hormones. These conclusions are valid both for the injection of a physiological dose (0.05 mu g/100 g) and a pharmacological dose (100 mu g/100 g). The fecal radioactive excretion is slightly increased in the irradiated animals, but this increase appears significant only in the rats receiving a pharmacological dose of T/sub 4/. (tr- auth)
