ON THE 5.16 MeV AND 7.56 MeV STATES OF B$sup 1$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
The methods developed by Talmi and coworkers are used to calculate the binding energies of the two B/sup 10/ levels formed by coupling 2S/sub 1/2//sup 2/ to the Be/sup 8/ ground state. The calculated energies are found to be in excellent agreement with those of the B/sup 10/ 5.16- and 7.65-Mev levels, for which the most probable spin-parity and isobaric-spin assignments are J/sup s = 1/sup +/, T = 0, and J/sup s= 0/sup +/, T = 1, respectively. The strong gamma -transition connecting these levels is also consistent with the proposed identification with double-particle excitation into the 2S--ld shell. The excitation energies of 2S/sub 1/2//sup n/ levels in Be/sup 10/, B/sup 11/, and C/ sup 12/ are also calculated assuming that the Be/sup 8/ ground state forms an inert core. (auth)
