BETA-GAMMA DIRECTIONAL CORRELATIONS IN THE DECAY Sb$sup 124$$Yields$Te$sup 12$$sup 4$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The beta -4gg directional correlations involving the 1.6-Mev beta group of Sb/sup 124/ and the second excited 2/sup +/ atate of Te/sup 12 / 4>s. Both of the gamma rays (0.72 and 1.32 Mev) de-exciting this atate were used. For both groups of gamma rays, the results for the coefficient epsilon in W( theta ) = 1 + epsilon P/sub 2/(cos theta ) are evaluated. From the results, the miking ratio for the 0.72-Mev gamma ray is found. It is shown that the 1.6- Mev beta transition muat be due, at least partly, to the B/sub ij/ matrik element. By assuming u = x= 0 (in Kotani's notation), the data can be fitted by either Y/z = 0.04 (i.e., an essentially unique transition) or Y/z = 1.2. Evidence for the existence of a 1.25-Mev level in Te/sup 124/ is also given. (auth)
