Decay of Cl$sup 38$-Isomers; ZERFALL DES Cl$sup 38$-ISOMERS

Isomeric Cl/sup 38/ was produced by neutron activation of chlorine samples in a pneumatic irradiation facility. The decay of the Cl/sup 38/ isomer was investigated by various scintillation spectrometer techniques. The half-life and the internal conversion coefficient alpha of the 0.66-Mev isomeric transition were found to be 0.74 plus or minus 0.03 sec and (5.0 plus or minus 1.2) x 10/sup -4/, respectively. These data suggest a M-3 transition between an isomeric state with the spin I = 5/sup -/ and the ground-state of Cl/sup 38/ (I = 2/sup -/). (auth)
