DISSOCIATION OF BUTANE MOLECULE IONS FORMED IN CHARGE EXCHANGE COLLISIONS WITH POSITIVE IONS

                        Mass spectra of butane were obtained after charge exchange with slow positive ions. The intensities of the peaks were plotted as a function of the energy absorbed by the molecule during the charge exchange. From the curves the electron impact mass spectrum can be obtained by integration using an energy distribution function with a high maximum at about 12 ev. Metastable ions were measured and the results are discussed. (auth)
