The aim of this report was to find a method for estimating the antireactivity of control rods perpendicular to the axis in a cylindrical pile. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first is given a method of calculating control rods in a rectangular pile, similar to the Nordheim-Scalettar method for cylindrical piles. As an example the formulas are given for the theories of one- and two-neutron groups, the generalization for several groups being evident. In the second part by a variation method a formula is found for estimating the Laplacian of a pile, which may be divided into parallelepipeds for which the Laplacians are given. Finally, this formula is used to calculate the antireactivity of rods perpendicular to the axis in a cylindrical pile. (auth)
