The Sudarshan--Bryan--Gersten model for T violation in the strong interaction is used to calculate the electric dipole moment of the neutron. The method of sidewise dispersion relations is used with the absorptive part of the amplitude arising from the three-particle lepton--antineutrino--nucleon intermediate state which is the lowest-order nonvanishing contribution allowed by the model. The phenomenological couplings are taken from the model. The only free parameter appearing in the calculation is the range of the dispersion relation integral which is taken equal to that used by Drell and Pagels in their successful neutron-magnetic-moment-estimation calculation. Our calculation yields an estimate of the absolute value of D/sub n/ < 7 x 10$sup -26$ e cm. This value is below the present experimental limit of 10$sup -23$ e cm. (AIP)
